At last, Canada's East Coast may not have to depend on the Middle East for most of it's oils. A Liberal MP from Nova Scotia recently, visited the oil sands in Alberta. The Liberal MP stated that accessing oil from foreign markets have presented difficulties. After seeing the abundance of oil in Alberta has given hope to the Eastern provinces of Canada. Not everyone believes that bringing oil to the East is a good idea, Halifax West MP Geoff Regan says there are environmental concerns involved with the export of oil to produce usable oil through pipes which would be shipped to Eastern provinces in Canada. Although there are many environmental concerns in Canada, the company officials do not expect environmental push backs on this idea due to the fact that it would greatly increase the economy.
So you may be wondering how this article relates to the International Business, this is related because Canada would start to produce and ship the oil within Canada instead of sending it off to other countries. This will create more job opportunities and advancement in technology, in order to manufacture the oil and ship it to the Eastern parts of Canada. Canada's economy will grow and our dependence on other countries for oil will greatly decrease, especially with the Middle East where they depend on oil for trade and their government is corrupt. During the previous chapter we discussed about the abundance of these oil sands, would these oil sands last us until newer and cleaner energy are invented. In my opinion we should start using newer, cleaner and more efficient types of energy as opposed to depending on old forms of technology. In your opinion would you like to keep using old types of energy as opposed to newer and cleaner ones?
I think that its good to have our own source ofoil so that we dont have to depend on other countries on oil and listen to their demands or trades. Laos having our own source of oil will boost our economy with more jobs.
ReplyDeleteVery well put Adiel in the second paragraph...
ReplyDeleteMaaran makes a great point too...though we have seen through the World Trade Game that nations are all dependent on one another, for such a valuable commodity, it might make "cents" to be self-sufficient (since we actually have the resource).
I think that it is both a good idea and a bad idea to have our own source of oil. I think that it is good because if we have our own source of oil, we don't have to buy oil from other countries. This saves money. I also think that it is a bad idea because of the environmental concerns.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all before I comment on the article, you made a small mistake in the first paragraph. You said, "Finally, Canada's East Coast may not have to depend on the Middle East for all of it's oil, a Liberal MP from Nova Scotia visited the oil sands in Nova Scotia", whereas I think you meant to say the oil sands in ALBERTA. Anyways, brilliant choice of article Adiel. This is a highly sensitive topic that has been a topic of snowballing controversies for a very long time. People have always been torn between the economic benefits of the development and transportation of the oil sands against the environmental concerns. I personally WOULD build the pipes to transport the oil because right now WE ARE PAYING A FORTUNE for oil while we have our own source of oil IN Canada. Why should we be paying OTHERS when we have oil ourselves? I think its sooooooo waste how we sell oil to the United States but we pay more for oil here than them?!? I strongly believe that the gas prices should drop a lot, esp. in Canada, since we have such a high abundance of this resource.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking about gas prices, I was just chilling on twitter and I randomly say this tweet which read, " The next time my girlfriend ask me to take her somewhere expensive, I am going to take her to the gas station" caught my eye. It sounds really funny but it also makes us think about the rising gas prices.
